Bad scene in the Premier League game between FC Southampton and West Ham United (0-1): Guest goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański had to be substituted after a collision and taken off the field on a stretcher. The 39-year-old may have injured his head. The injury initially appeared to be “concerning,” the club said. In the second half, Fabianski was able to sit on the bench again. There was initially no further information about the football professional’s health.

Fabiański apparently received an elbow from opponent Nathan Wood in the face after a corner kick just under half an hour later. The 57-time Polish national goalkeeper was treated on the pitch for several minutes. Southampton keeper Aaron Ramsdale also rushed over from the opposite side to ask about him.

Fabianski was eventually replaced by Alphonse Aréola and brought out to applause from the crowd.

German international striker Niclas Füllkrug headed West Ham’s winning goal through Jarrod Bowen in the 59th minute. It was the former Bundesliga attacker’s second assist this season.
