Kat in ‘t bakkie: Jessica Schilder with ease to World Cup final shot put

Jessica Schilder is in the World Cup final in Budapest. The shot putter from Volendam hit the qualification limit of 19.10 meters on her first attempt. Her distance was 19.64 meters, her best throw of the season. She also won the qualification. Jorinde van Klinken is also in the final.

The season did not go smoothly for Schilder. The Volendam came fifth at the European Indoor Championships this spring and was not fit. That was due to a fall in February during a match in Madrid, where his elbow suffered a painful injury. She needed time to recover and was mentally drained. At the NK last month, where she won a national title, she felt optimal again.

Painter was of course satisfied afterwards. “This was also what I had hoped for. It is fun again with the girls. My goal for the final is mainly to enjoy.”

The final is Saturday evening from 8.15 pm. Rik Taam therefore closes his all-around. The relay teams 4×100 meters women and 4×400 meters men/women will also be in action.
