If you look at the glass half full, Sister Karina Milei’s latest advances on the Government are a demonstration of her power. He imposed his candidate in the Ministry of Justice – the always ready Juan Bautista Mahiques –, he beheaded the SIDE of his adversary Santiago Caputo to place someone there who, although in theory he refers to the star advisor, in reality has a fluid dialogue with her, before he won the Chief of Staff with Manuel Adorni and the Interior portfolio with Diego Santilli, and for the immediate future he is already thinking about taking over other Caputist funds: YPF, the former AFIP and Health. A lightning operation to show everyone – in case there were still any doubts – who’s boss.
If you look at the glass half empty, however, this display by the general secretary is not a sign of strength, but of weakness. The change in the Justice area, above all, is due to the need to fix the link with Comodoro Py, where the Libra crypto scam file began to take flight after months of inexplicable delays in the investigation. What now burns Karina and her brother are the documents and audios from the cell phone of the trader Mauricio Novelli – an intimate of hers – in which he talks about an alleged payment of 5 million dollars to Javier Milei in exchange for him launching his tweet promoting the cryptocurrency. Mahiques arrived with the mission of containing this scandal, something that at the moment seems unlikely. Or not? For the distrustful, it is striking that the Government has included the wife of the magistrate in charge of the case, Marcelo Martínez de Giorgi, among the lists to occupy judicial positions.
Also in Adorni’s affair the suspicions of the palace fight between Karina and the advisor Caputo appear. The President’s sister ordered an exhaustive and urgent investigation into where the leak about the Chief of Staff’s flight to Punta del Este on a private plane occurred, and what she ended up discovering is that the person who recorded the scene with her cell phone was a union member of the Socialist Workers Party (PTS) who worked at the San Fernando airport, and not some agent under Caputo’s orders. But the truth is that Karina suspected the latter.
The sister no longer knows where the blows come from, and that is why she seeks to shield herself and add more power. Theirs does not seem like progress, but rather a flight forward.
