Karel Sabbe takes the last stretch towards record

Karel Sabbe has been traveling from the south to the north of the United States for 39 days straight. In the meantime he has covered more than 3600 kilometers over mountainous terrain. He still has 12 days left to cover about 650 remaining kilometers, falling below the current record. In the virtual standings with the American Timothy Olson, who broke Sabbe’s record in 2021, Sabbe is more than 400 kilometers ahead after the same amount of time.

On Thursday, 33-year-old Anzegemnaar crossed the ‘Bridge of the Gods’ and entered the last American state on his path, Washington. A small crew accompanies him throughout the entire process. His wife, parents and three-year-old son Jack support from start to finish.

In March, Sabbe became the seventeenth athlete ever to finish the grueling Barkley Marathons. Via this link you can see live how far Karel Sabbe has already reached on the Pacific Crest Trail: https://pct.karelsabbe.com/
