Former Top model in search -program competitor Jennifer An has sued Kanye West, the rapper now known by the stage name Ye, over an incident he says happened in 2010. The BBC reports Fame Under Fire on the podcast.
An said West choked her and put his fingers in her mouth to simulate oral sex while filming a scene for a music video in which she made a cameo appearance.
West’s lawyers are not denying what happened, but have claimed it was part of an “intense and provocative theatrical performance” in which West tried to imitate a scene from the film American Psycho.
Jennifer An was 24 years old when she was hired to perform La Roux – band’s hit In for the Kill – music video. He did not know at the time that West would be involved in the filming.
When An arrived on set at the Chelsea Hotel in New York, she claims West arrived and took over the set before he assaulted her.
– Suddenly he just reaches out and starts strangling me, and I’m not sure what’s going on, An says about what happened.
– And then he pulled out his other hand and started strangling me with both hands. He started spreading the makeup all over my face and putting his hands in my mouth.
There were a lot of people on set and they didn’t interfere. The others were motionless and just stared at Ani.
An said the situation ended when West yelled something along the lines of “This is art, I’m Picasso.”
After that, he had stated that he got what he wanted and left the place.
An said she found the alleged encounter frightening and said West did not speak to her before, during or after the incident.
After the incident, An says that he spoke to La Roux, who, according to him, apologized for what happened.
The case has yet to go to trial, and West’s lawyers filed a motion to dismiss it earlier this year. Lawyers have argued that An did not object or try to leave the show.
Ani’s lawyer said the incident sets a dangerous precedent if artists feel they can do whatever they want as long as they call it art.
