It has been six years since Patrick Mahomes signed a historic ten-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, binding the three-time Super Bowl winner to the franchise until the end of the 2031 NFL season. Because that was apparently still not enough for the team, the quarterback can look forward to another extension.
How “ESPN” announced on Tuesday that the Kansas City Chiefs have reached an agreement with Patrick Mahomes to extend the working paper, which was already dated until 2031, by two more years. With this agreement, the quarterback is now tied to the Missouri team until 2033. With the deal, the 30-year-old is venturing into new spheres.
By extending the contract, the superstar is now entitled to at least $504.75 million until 2033 – $239.05 million of which will be added through the contract restructuring agreed on Wednesday, which was finalized by Mahomes’ agent Chris Cabott and general manager Brett Veach.#
NFL: Mahomes and Chiefs set new standards
If Mahomes fulfills all the conditions for performance-related bonuses set out in his contract, the Texan native could receive up to $522.25 million. Starting in 2027, when the new payments begin, the contract will average $64 million per year, setting a new NFL record for average annual value.
By revising the contract, Mahomes also becomes the first player in NFL history to have his total contract value break the $500 million barrier. This is the third time in six years that the Chiefs and Mahomes have reworked the exceptional athlete’s contract and thus redefined the quarterback market.
Clark Hunt, chairman and CEO of the Chiefs, has no doubt that the playmaker is worth his money: “He helped lead our franchise to five Super Bowl appearances and three championships, he played a key role in shaping the Chiefs brand and putting Kansas City on the world stage, and on top of that, he is an outstanding role model in the community.”
Mahomes, who is currently suffering from a torn cruciate ligament and could possibly miss the start of the new season, is “a unique talent and an extraordinary person, and I am very pleased that he will continue to lead our team in the future,” added the team boss.
