Musician Jussi Chydenius tells about the last moments of his parents in an interview with Society.

Musician Jussi Chydenius lost both parents for a short time last year.
His father, composer Kaj Chydenius died on April 20, 2024. Jussi Chydenius’ mother, theater director Kaisa Korhonen Only five days later died on 25 April.

Chydenius also had a gig on the evening of death. He wondered if he could go to Lahti on stage.
– I came to the conclusion that Kaj would have wanted to perform. Even before the gig, the father’s death was reported, which brought a special touch to the stage. I thought everyone was looking at what I look like, and I wondered if I should react somehow.
At the same time, the birthday party of Chydenius’ youngest son was also hit. Relative births were celebrated with the condolences and the next day, just before the friend birthday, Chydenius received a call from his brother about their mother’s condition collapse.
The following days, the brothers spent the Alzheimer’s mother in the room, a service house, who had Alzheimer’s disease.
– It was some relief that her mother’s life ended. He was no longer the same person. He had no words, and he couldn’t walk himself, just lying in bed.
Chydenius tells the magazine that he feels his task to cherish his parents’ life’s work and accomplishments. For example, he has recorded a symphony with Lahti in his father’s music.
Jussi Chydenius remembered his father to Iltalehti after this death last spring.
– He was able to do the job he loved for a really long time. Fewer 80-year-old gigs are touring. He especially enjoyed his performance with younger singers. Dad was also prolific, there are thousands of songs, Chydenius described.

Chydenius also described the gig of his father’s death day. He said it was handled as usual and no special memories were seen.
– My father would by no means wanted it. At least he was not a melodramatic person. In the case of a rock gig that people have been waiting for months, it would have been wrong for them to change the nature of the event by dealing with death. It would have affected the mood, Chydenius said.
– It was a significant evening for myself. I played that gig to my dad at some level.
