Jury in Depp-Heard case will continue deliberations on Tuesday | show

The jury in the libel case between Hollywood stars Johnny Depp and his ex Amber Heard will continue its deliberations on Tuesday. That means that no decision will be made on Friday evening (local time) in the case that the 58-year-old actor has brought against his 33-year-old ex.

After a six-week trial in which Depp and Heard accused each other of domestic violence, a seven-member jury is deliberating on a verdict. During the weekend, the jury does not deliberate, nor does Monday, because then it is a holiday (Memorial Day) in the United States. The meeting will continue next Tuesday morning local time.

Earlier Friday, the legal teams of the 58-year-old actor and the 36-year-old actress held their closing arguments in the court of Fairfax in the US state of Virginia. Depp’s team accused Heard of “saying anything to prove her right.” Heard’s team, on the other hand, noted that “domestic violence also occurs when there is no evidence.”

Six weeks

The case between Depp and Heard has been going on for six weeks. The former lovers have both testified in court. Witnesses were also heard for both Johnny and Amber. The case is very lively on social media and there is a lot of speculation about who will ultimately win this case.

The actor sued his ex-wife after she wrote an opinion piece for the American newspaper in 2018 The Washington Post, in which she said she was a victim of domestic violence. Although Depp was not mentioned by name, according to the 58-year-old actor it would be obvious to readers that it was about him. And although Heard has stated under oath in recent weeks that she is not the author of the piece in question, she later stated that she is the author of the article, “to show people how influential men like Johnny Depp are.” Depp has sued Heard for $50 million. She filed a counterclaim of $100 million.
