Jungk and Neise fear for the Olympics because of Corona

Corona is also increasingly affecting the German Olympic team for Beijing. The two-time skeleton world champion Axel Jungk and the junior world champion Hannah Neise have to worry about participating in the Winter Games from February 4th to 20th after positive tests.

The bobsleigh and sled association for Germany (BSD) confirmed a corresponding report by the “Bild” newspaper to the SID. Previously, ski jumper Andreas Wellinger’s dream of a third Olympic gold had burst due to a corona infection.

“Unfortunately, both of them tested positive after the World Cup in St. Moritz,” said national skeleton coach Christian Baude: “Hannah on Saturday, January 15th, Axel on Sunday, January 16th. The Friday before they were still negative and started in the World Cup race.”

The duo is now on the mend after mild symptoms. However, Jungk and Neise each have to show four negative PCR tests before they can enter China – so it gets tight. “They will start the tests on Monday. We are still hopeful that it will work out in time,” said Baude.
