After the violation of Marc-André Ter Stegen, the question arose whether Manuel Neuer should not explain the resignation of resignation. National coach Nagelsmann has a clear opinion.
At the international coaching congress in Leipzig, the national coach made it clear: “In my thoughts I know that Marc will come back in December, then the two games will play in March, in June, and then the World Cup.”
Ter Stegen fails after a back surgery by the end of the year and thus misses the qualification games against Slovakia, Northern Ireland and Luxembourg. At the club, the 33-year-old is currently only a third choice. Nagelsmann emphasized that the contact is tight. The situation can realistically assess the situation. “He is number one when he is healthy and the number one in the club. He knows that.”
The national coach relies on a proven solution for the upcoming games. There will be no surprise, he said. So Oliver Baumann should continue to guard the goal. Alexander Nübel and U21 keeper Noah Atubolu are considered to be further options.
Nagelsmann said: “Manu played a very good club World Cup, but we deliberately made the decision (to say goodbye).” A return is currently not an issue. He assumes that Ter Stegen “will be number one again in winter” – also at Barça. In the goalkeeper position, he generally sees “many good” options and are not worried.
