“No more countless chances”: Nagelsmann counts Sané

Returning to the DFB team does not automatically mean a regular place for Leroy Sané in the future. The national coach increases the pressure.
Leroy Sané is under special observation on his return to the German national team. National coach Julian Nagelsmann took the 29-year-old to task with words of warning: “He knows that there are no longer countless chances to prove yourself at national team level, at least under my leadership,” said Nagelsmann on Monday at a press conference in Wolfsburg.
According to the national coach, Sané’s invitation for the two World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg on Friday and against Slovakia three days later is also based on a lack of alternatives. “If we had six or seven players to choose from in that position, it would be much more difficult for him,” said Nagelsmann. Looking at his performance since moving from FC Bayern to Galatasaray Istanbul, he was “not yet 100 percent” satisfied.
After a continued “very good exchange” and “totally transparent, open communication”, Sané is aware “of what is required. He is a player who can basically do everything. He just has to do everything. And no one can help him except himself,” the national coach continued.
Sané, who has played 70 international matches and scored 14 goals, returns to the squad for the first time since June. Since then he has improved his sport at national and international levels. Nagelsmann emphasized: “His quota and his performances were significantly improved than at the beginning, both in the Süper Lig and in the Champions League. But he still has steps to take to make things even better – here and at the club.”
