Combats against Italy always have a great charm. Ko-duelle all the more. Two of them will be pending in the coming week. Now the German squad has been determined.
National coach Julian Nagelsmann nominated his contingent for the upcoming caps against Italy on Thursday.
Seven players are new or return to the circle of the German national team: Yann Aurel Bisseck, David Raum, Karim Adeyemi, Nadiem Amiri, Leon Goretzka, Jamie Leweling and Jonathan Burkardt. And Leroy Sané is again there, who was still missing from the nomination in November, but had been nominated for the injured Deniz Undav.
For Goretzka it is the first nomination since November 2023. He missed the home European Championship last year. For Karim Adeyemi, the last DFB profession was even longer. The wing striker of Borussia Dortmund last stood at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in the German squad.
For the Mainz Nadiem Amiri, the appointment has been the first since the end of 2020. The creative midfielder was missing in the DFB squad-and is now back in the Bundesliga due to his strong performance.
One of the co-duels against the “Squadra Azzurra”, as the Italian team is also called, takes place on March 20 in Milan, the other then three days later in Dortmund. Julian Nagelsmann has to do without the injured Florian Wirtz, Kai Havertz, Benjamin Henrichs, Felix Nmecha and the sick Aleksandar Pavlović (read more here).
According to Nagelsmann, the Stuttgart Nick Woltemade was also a candidate, but should currently also play in the U21 national team with regard to the U21 European Championship in summer.
