Grillroom Sofram can still open again. The judge decided that. On Saturday, owner Recep Çelik can receive guests again. Mayor Mark Buijs decided at the beginning of June to close the building for four weeks after an explosion had taken place two nights in a row. Now the judge turns that decision back. Çelik responds happily: “What a relief!”
According to Çelik, it soon became clear during the hearing on Friday that he could open his case again. “We soon got the idea that the judge also thought it was an extreme measure.” That was also apparent when the judge made the ruling: Saturday, June 14, Çelik can open his grillroom for customers again. “I immediately removed the stickers from the door with people from the municipality. The municipality was very cooperating”, “, tells The owner against Southwest TV.
Tough period
Recently it has been a tough period for both Çelik and his wife, he says. “I hope that this period will make us stronger. For now it means that I will get full tank with the preparations for tomorrow.” In the past period, the owner was also not allowed to enter his building, so that the majority of his stock can be thrown away. “In the meantime I have not been able to give the fish food either. Fortunately they are still alive.”
In addition, Çelik will be involved in the safety of his case in the coming period. “I have already ordered steel shutters to ensure that these types of incidents will no longer happen.” He hopes that his case has not been given a bad name due to the incidents and the closure. “That is a question mark for the future. Time will learn it.” The owner does look ahead with a positive feeling. “We are not there yet, but for now we have received good news. On Saturday we are going to pop again!”
Finally, Çelik wants to thank all the people who have supported him and his wife in the past week. “We have received so much support from so many people. That has really helped us a lot lately.”
The municipality of Roosendaal did not want to respond to the news on Friday morning. “We will first delve into the judge’s decision,” said a spokesperson.
