RRome, 23 December. (askanews) – The technical lighting tests took place on Sunday evening at 5.30pm suggestive “Vela di Calatrava” in Tor Vergataawaiting the official activation on December 24th as a contribution from the State Property Agency to Rome Jubilee 2025.

The artistic lighting of the sail is intended to symbolize the path of the sun, moon and stars. The stars mark the rhythm of time, of the seasons and of our lives and have always guided the traveller, pilgrim, towards the destination”, declares the Director of the State Property Agency, Alessandra dal Verme.

The play of light begins with warm tones, similar to those of sunset, to evolve towards a white light that recalls that of a crescent moon. The shade progressively cools, becoming lighter and fresher, blending harmoniously with the material of the structure, passing through shades of light blue and blue to evoke the image of the starry sky until it decreases in intensity and fades away.

The installation is powered by energy from renewable sources.

In 2025 the Tor Vergata area, abandoned for almost 14 years and considered among the largest unfinished works in the country, will return to being usable for the Jubilee thanks to the safety and redevelopment interventions carried out by the State Property Agency, with a entirely permeable area and an arena capable of accommodating up to 12 thousand visitors. The development of the area, shared with the Mef and the Technical Table, led by the President of the Region, with the participation of the Mayor of Rome and the local institutions, involves the creation of a green city dedicated to well-being, research and training , with forms of public-private partnership to attract investments in the area.

The famous “Vela”, the work of the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, famous for its approximately 75 meter high structure, will be open to citizens, tourists and pilgrims thanks to the redevelopment intervention of the State Property Agency and the area in which it stands will be the subject of an intense planting operation, launching one of the most important sustainable urban regeneration projects, returning urban greenery and well-being infrastructures, research and training laboratories to citizens, to be carried out in partnership public-private.

The investments made by the State Property Agency on this compendium of over 49 hectares, acquired by it Agency with budget law for the year 2021, exceed 70 million euros and were foreseen by the 13th of 2023. An extraordinary opportunity to create cultural, economic and social attractiveness and value. An intervention that will also contribute to enhancing the surrounding area thanks to intense collaboration with local institutions, local administrations, universities and research centres.
