Joshua Kimmich: Bayern star comments on future after 8-1 win

Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich shows a strong performance against Mainz. The 29-year-old then talks about his future – and seems more relaxed than he has in a long time.

So far, the season for Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich has been anything but smooth. He has lost the regular place in defensive midfield that he had hoped for and is a long way from his desired role as the team’s future captain.

This obviously gives the German international player self-confidence. However, he doesn’t have any problems with his role as a full-back: “I see myself wherever the coach puts me,” explained Kimmich after the decisive victory in a press session in the catacombs of the Allianz Arena, where t-online was also present.

He also made it clear: “I generally feel comfortable on the pitch – whether on the right or in the middle. Maybe not in goal. Otherwise, I really enjoy playing everywhere and try to give my best.”

He responded to further questions about the move from his favorite position in midfield to defense with a smile: “Is that really worth a headline?”

Kimmich: “Generally my situation is very, very clear”

A more concrete answer from the exceptional player about his future at FC Bayern would certainly have been worth a headline. When asked when he would make a decision about it, Kimmich explained: “In general, my situation is very, very clear. I still have over a year left on my contract. Nobody has spoken to me yet. That’s why I’m very, very relaxed. ” At the “end of the day” it’s just about him showing his performance at Bayern.

Apart from that, Kimmich generally likes it with the German football record champions. When asked whether he felt comfortable at FC Bayern, he said briefly: “Yes.” And he also feels comfortable in the city of Munich. He looked at the two of his four children, who kept running back and forth behind his back while he was conducting the interview – and smiled.

Whether that will be enough for the ambitious Kimmich to wear the South German jersey next season remains to be seen. Sports director Christoph Freund announced that he wanted to hold contract talks with Kimmich after the international break in April and May. Exit open.
