Jordy Clasie senses a lack of confidence at AZ: “You feel it in the team”

AZ came away well tonight with a 2-3 victory against HHC Hardenberg in the cup tournament. After the heavy defeat against PSV and the elimination in Europe, it was again a difficult match for Pascal Jansen’s team. Jordy Clasie saw his teammates’ confidence drop as the game progressed. “We made ourselves unnecessarily difficult,” said the captain of the Alkmaarders.

“This was an ugly win. We just didn’t play well. You have to score two or three times after fifteen minutes,” Clasie says afterwards. “You know that if you don’t score on nights like this, confidence drops and you give them hope.”

“If you are punished severely and do not create anything yourself, then you are in a difficult phase”

AZ midfielder Jordy Clasie

According to Clasie, AZ’s mediocre match is partly due to the phase the team is currently in. “We received two big blows. From Europe and poorly played by PSV. That does something to the team. That is logical. If you are punished severely and do not create anything yourself, then you are in a difficult phase. You noticed that today also. ”

Doubt in the team

AZ coach Pascal Jansen saw doubt creeping into his team as the match progressed. “This match is in the top five worst matches ever. It has remained a match for too long,” says Jansen. “Then I see the doubts in my team. That has nothing to do with motivation, that is the phase we are in.”
