Jordan Teze sees progress in defense despite many goals against

It was at times embarrassing what PSV showed in Enschede. Nevertheless, Ruud van Nistelrooij and Jordan Teze remained calm afterwards. There were, however, some notable statements.

“The players didn’t have the right attitude in the first half”, Van Nistelrooij started his story. “You know that Twente is going to start brightly. You are even lucky that it stays at 2-0. It could have been a lot more.”

The trainer is also self-critical. He also blames himself for the fact that his team starts with a wrong attitude. “When you perform like this as a team, and that includes me, you don’t deserve to win. We have lost ourselves.”

“I see a lot of progress in defence”

The weaknesses of this PSV are at the back, just like last season, the Eindhoven club conceded too many goals. But according to defender Jordan Teze, there is progress. “Today we are not compact, but in other competitions it is better. I see a lot of progress. It’s the little moments that have to go.”

A remarkable statement since PSV has not yet managed to keep a clean sheet this season. Another striking observation was the team’s tactics. Especially in the first half, a lot of people opted for the long ball on the little Xavi Simons.

“The players did not perform their duties in the first half”

“We do have qualities on the ball to build on, but in these kinds of matches you have to be smart and play differently,” said the Brabant defender.

Van Nistelrooij drew a different conclusion. “The players did not perform their duties in the first half. Then you go wet. We did it all by ourselves.”

And so the question is how good PSV is. At the first serious test in the Eredivisie, the club already crashed. The trainer is logically not worried yet. “We played well at Ajax, AS Monaco and Rangers FC. This is the first away game we’re bad. FC Twente has rightly won.”
