Musician Jonna Geagea, 48, tells Iltalehte about his future plans.

Iltalehti met Geagea on Wednesday, October 22, at the Helsinki restaurant Oiva’s guest bridge. The story of the 85-year-old restaurant makes Geagea think about his own career as well. Geagea graduated as a chef from Perho Vocational School two years ago.

– I have a big dream of my own restaurant. I look at such pioneers and try to absorb all the advice and lessons.

Geagea reveals that opening his own restaurant is part of his plans for the next few years. The year 2026 will be focused on Nylon Beat, after that it will be the restaurant’s turn.

– It has been under consideration all along. Starting a restaurant is no small feat.

Geagea can’t yet say what style of restaurant he plans to open. He wants to keep food first.

– Greek food and food culture is my favorite, and actually the entire Mediterranean cuisine. I also like Arabic food and of course Finnish food. Maybe if they could somehow be connected, Geagea thinks.

Anniversary

Nylon Beat recently announced that they will organize a total of four concerts at the Helsinki Ice Hall in the fall of 2026. The band, which ended its active career in 2003, has since returned to the performance stages several times.

Geagea says he and the band’s other singer Erin Anttilan to be excited about Nylon Beat’s upcoming ice rink concerts.

– We want to honor those little girls and boys who once with an open mind dared to dig us, even though it might have been embarrassing for some.

Geage doesn’t want to talk about comebacks, since there have been them before. Instead, he talks about a jubilee year. In 2026, it will be 30 years since the release of Nylon Beat’s debut album.

– Erin and I have never celebrated any milestones. But now thirty years are being celebrated. Couldn’t wait to turn forty, Geagea laughs.

The duo’s friendship goes back even further. The singers, who have known each other since they were six years old, have been friends for 42 years.

– Erin and I are like sisters. We are not always in touch and sometimes there are breaks, but it never goes away. We’ve already gotten used to each other in just over forty years, says Geagea.

Horses

This past fall, Geage has been seen touring Finnish concert stages. This time, Erin Anttila has not been the singing partner, but a rocker known from Nightwish and Tarot Marko Hietala.

Jonna Geagea was recently on Marko Hietala’s autumn tour. Jukka Vaso

Geagea and Hietala were brought together by a guitarist Tuomas Wäinöläwho has played both in Nylon Beat and in the solo bands of both singers. It was Wäinölä who asked Geagea to join Hietala’s autumn tour to sing.

– I have never been on such a cool tour. In it, you could sing the horses with your throat, Geagea enthuses.

On the tour, Geagea and Hietala sang songs by Nightwish and Nylon Beat, among others.

– It was shockingly big boots to step into. Everyone automatically assumed it wouldn’t work because I’m Jonna from Nylon Beat. But when I’m not just Jonna from Nylon Beat, there’s a lot more to me, says Geagea, who used to sing hevi himself.
