What seemed like a historyless stage for a long time, turned out to be a spectacle for both positive and negative reasons. The second stage in the Giro d’Italia was marred by a major fall just under 30 kilometers from the finish, after which the race had to be stopped briefly. In the real final, Jonas Vingegaard showed himself, but Guillermo Thomas Silva surprised friend and foe and sprinted to victory and the pink.
