Bayern are apparently courting Cologne’s Jonas Urbig. The goalkeeper can probably imagine a move to the Isar.
He played for the youth team at 1. FC Köln, went through the club’s U17 and U19 ranks and made it to the professionals. Now Jonas Urbig could soon make the next leap. But not at his training club, but at FC Bayern.
According to Sky, Urbig is considered the German record champions’ preferred candidate as Manuel Neuer’s backup. The 2014 world champion could extend his expiring contract again and Urbig could learn from the German national goalkeeper. Because: According to Sky, Alexander Nübel will probably play in Stuttgart next season and Daniel Peretz will apparently be loaned out in the summer in order to gain match practice.
Urbig, whose contract in Cologne runs until 2026, recently lost his regular place to Marvin Schwäbe and is probably thinking about a change. Cologne coach Gerhard Struber told the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” about Urbig’s demotion: “I can’t blame Jonas for anything in terms of sport. He’s a young goalkeeper who’s mainly because of something he can’t do anything about – I mean the topic of experience – has lost his regular place to Marvin Schwäbe.”
The coach continued: “Marvin has benefited the team with his experience and played a decisive role in our series. But Jonas is and remains a very good, interesting goalkeeper who has the future.”
According to Sky, a transfer to FC Bayern is a “serious option” for Urbig. The people of Munich have been watching the goalkeeper for years and rate him as one of the greatest talents in this position in Germany. Sky reports that Cologne could demand a transfer fee of between six and eight million euros, but concrete negotiations between the clubs are still pending.
