Johnny de Mol continuously yells that he does not trial by media wishes and only wants to defend himself in court against Shima Kaes, but according to critics that is hypocritical: “He uses his own talk show!”

It really disturbs Johnny de Mol that his ex-fiancée Shima Kaes accuses him of aggravated assault and attempted manslaughter. Although she has a spicy declaration, filled with photos and medical records, according to Johnny, ‘all of it is not true’. Meanwhile, his lawyer Peter Plasman is a lot less firm.

Trial by media

According to critics, it is laughable that Johnny and Peter complain about the trial by media. After all, we see Johnny and Peter repeatedly in the media to argue his case, while Shima keeps a low profile for the time being. Who exactly is guilty of trial by media here?

Unlike Shima, Johnny has his own talk show, a lawyer who likes to sit in talk shows and an employer who has a direct line with important opinion makers such as Johan Derksen.

What does Angela think?

According to Angela de Jong, it is a bit hypocritical of Johnny. “I think it’s funny what he says. He says: ‘We are not going to fight it through the media’, but it is already the second time that he uses his own program to make his statement,” she says in Good morning Netherlands.

Hostess Maaike Timmerman: “It remains a bit alienating: a presenter being interviewed by his guest, but that happens very often there.’

Angela: “It is indeed customary there. Catherine Keyl has of course already done it once during the Voice scandal.”

media cynicism

Mol expert Mark Koster thinks it is expensive that Johnny is chasing the Public Prosecution Service to pick up the case. “Fortunately, the Public Prosecution Service determines at what time and whether it will prosecute someone. That the scion of a media family demands a quick decision against trial by media is refreshing, but also a form of media cynicism. Especially because Plasman can explain the requirement at Op1.”

Ton F. van Dijk, the journalist who reported Shima in HP/DeTijd: “Johnny doesn’t want a ‘trial by media’ and rightly so. So his lawyer is with Op1.”

Jan goes wild

Columnist Jan Dijkgraaf makes in his Letter from Jan especially minced by Johnny. He lists the ways in which Johnny uses his media power. “That is indeed not a trial by media. Not at all. Are you crazy. The opposing party is just starting a media offensive!”, he writes cynically.

“We are waiting for the moment that your father has himself interviewed by Tim Hofman of BOOS and says that he thought it was strange that your ex-fiancée only rang the bell at the appropriate counters five years later.”

Shima’s lawyer

Shima’s lawyer Karim Aachboun late The Telegraph know ‘to agree with lawyer Plasman that there should be a trial by judge instead of a trial by media’. “But how amazing is it that the public can now conclude that lawyer Plasman himself is doing trial by media by accusing us of threats in this publication?”

“We, and our client, have never leaked any information to the media. We are not aware of a possible Public Prosecution Service decision at the end of this month, other than that the Public Prosecution Service has yet to start hearing witnesses, whose contact details were passed on at the beginning of this month, about the client’s complaint against Mr. Johnny de Mol for aggravated assault and attempted murder.”
