We have been seeing John de Bever a lot on television lately with his hysterical lover Kees. Why is that anyway? “There is only one reason for that,” says his good friend Johan Derksen.
It’s really starting now too much to become: the TV appearances of John de Bever and his partner Kees are really getting out of hand. They pop up everywhere and even had a supporting role in the soap opera of the infamous Monique Hansler. “Yes, I don’t understand that either, but there’s more I don’t understand,” says good friend Johan Derksen.
Pragmatic
Johan has talked about it with John and he says that in principle they take advantage of every TV invitation. “De Bevers is a commercial company,” says the VI mustache Greetings from Grolloo. “Kees is the manager, John is the singer, and they have decided that they will be in every TV program.”
Why? “Because that creates awareness and an appearance on TV means that John de Bever gets bookings. I have advised them a few times not to be in certain programs, but they are very pragmatic about it, like: if your headline is on TV, that is interesting.”
Ranking the Stars
Sometimes Johan thinks it really goes too far. “There are TV programs that you don’t want to be in. There is such a program with a whole gallery of B-stars who are pissing each other off with Paul de Leeuw. I don’t know what it’s called, but you should never sit there, because there are only desperate people there.”
He is of course referring to Ranking the Stars. “That is the last station to be on TV for once and then you are thrown in the trash. You are too big for that, I think, as a successful folk singer. You should not do that.”
‘Does understand’
What does John say when Johan gives that kind of criticism? “John agreed with me, but Kees is much harder on that. He says: ‘TV is ideal for John’s promotion, so we just sit wherever we are invited.’”
“Well, that’s the result of running a company in a commercial manner. I understand that, although I don’t think it’s wise.”
