John de Bever and Johan Derksen call each other every day, even when the VI mustache was in Curaçao for two weeks. With a six-hour time difference and all. “Wilfred occasionally pushes on purpose.”
Johan Derksen has many opinions, but few loyal friends. There is at least one regular caller among the latter group: John de Bever. The folk singer narrates Weekend that the two speak to each other every day, without exception. Even during the Curaçao period of Today Inside, the telephone continued to ring, albeit with some time difference.
Contact every day
It really is a serious friendship and not a gimmick, John explains. “I have contact with Johan every day. Yes, really every day. Even now that he is in Curaçao. I only have to call six hours later because of the time difference. We have something to tell each other every day. Sometimes it is nonsense and sometimes it is interesting.”
He continues: “We can call each other for five minutes, but that can also be half an hour, that varies. I also call Wilfred occasionally or send a message, but that is not like with Johan. I have an intensive bond with Johan.”
Always himself
Is John also friends with Wilfred Genee or is that different? “No, that’s different,” he says firmly.
Why is he fond of Johan and not Wilfred? “Because Johan is always himself. You can agree with him or not, but he is always himself. On TV he is also always Johan. Wilfred occasionally pushes on purpose.”
