Johan Derksen has declined an invitation to join News of the Day. The result? The program filed a complaint with the Talpa management. “Why don’t you do that?”
You would think that every TV maker would understand that Johan Derksen, with five TV appearances a week, would not also appear in other programs, but nothing could be further from the truth. “Those program makers are also unashamed, because today I got a call again from that six o’clock thing, the News of the Day, asking if I wanted to sit there.”
‘Unbelievable!’
Incomprehensible, Johan thinks. He continues at the table Today Inside: “I say: ‘What do you think? That I’m going to sit there at six o’clock and then back here?’”
Wilfred Genee: “Isn’t that unbelievable?”
Johan: “And they are from Talpa! ‘Yes, we have something and you are the ideal interpreter.’ I say: ‘Well, I’ll explain that in the evening.’”
Errand boy
Wilfred thinks it’s crazy. “So you were called by an editor about that? Not someone from the editor-in-chief or something, but someone from the editorial staff.”
Johan: “No, just an errand boy. Last time during the summer holidays I also refused, and then they filed a complaint with the management.”

Johan then received a phone call. “Then I got on the phone with the management asking why I didn’t want to sit there. I said: ‘Well, that program isn’t running and at their wits’ end they think: let’s put that madman from Grolloo there, maybe that will yield something.’ I don’t lend myself to that.’”
It would be a shame if he were to sit there too, he decides. “A Wim Kieft participates in everything, because Wim just needs the money. He is free to do so. However, you also have people like us who are already on TV a lot and you see them in all the other programs.”
