SBS 6 mustache Johan Derksen may be deliberately attacking Renze Klamer because the RTL 4 presenter threatens to steal viewers away from Today Inside, says TV critic Victor Vlam. “VI has an interest in it.”
Johan Derksen has opened the frontal attack on Renze Klamer. The VI mustache uses anonymous sources, which he normally hates, to bash the RTL 4 star. These sources claim that Renze would exhibit Matthijs van Nieuwkerk-like behavior behind the scenes, something that is completely denied by RTL.
Alarm phase one
This is very bad for Renze, thinks TV critic Victor Vlam. “It is a major attack on Renze. This is remarkable, because Johan has expressed himself very positively about him in the past,” he says in the podcast Victor Indicates TV. “Renze Klamer’s career is in great danger and I hope they realize that at RTL. This is alarm phase one.”
“Should we believe this? I look at it this way: I actually believe that Renze is a jerk, yes, because quite a lot of people are now saying that and have also said it by name, so Beau and Humberto. I don’t believe it is the same behavior as Matthijs van Nieuwkerk; that is really out of the category.”
Gossip and backbiting
What does Victor know about it? “For what it’s worth, it has been going around in the talk show world for a while that Renze was not very good for the editorial staff when he presented RTL Tonight. For what it’s worth, it is of course gossip and backbiting, so I don’t take it one hundred percent as truth, but the talk show world is a small world.”
“You cannot rule out that stories are exaggerated, but I am also inclined, based on how persistent those stories were, to believe that there is some truth in them. I believe it to some extent, but it will not be at the level of Matthijs van Nieuwkerk. In any case, I have not seen any evidence of that.”
Importance of VI
Victor does point out that VI may not be operating completely honestly. “It must be pointed out that VI also has an interest in making this information public.”
He continues: “Johan has been positive about Renze in the past. This in a sense argues for his objectivity, but it is of course also true that Renze can become a serious competitor for Today Inside. Weakening Renze in advance can be a sensible strategy.”
Ingredients
Jan Hillenius, who held sway at VI for sixteen years, will become boss at Renze. “If Renze becomes a copy of Pauw & De Wit, then you do not hire Jan Hillenius as your editor-in-chief. It is expected that the Renze talk show will at least take over some ingredients from VI, so that it will become a very serious competitor to VI.”
Even Valentijn Driessen was contacted by Renze’s team. “That also seems to me to be a sign that they want to position the talk show Renze as an alternative to Today Inside.”
Weaken Renze
Johan and his colleagues are of course not looking forward to such a VI alternative. “That means that there is an interest at Today Inside to make this kind of information public.”
“It is of course also true that Renze could become a serious competitor for Today Inside, so weakening Renze in advance could be a sensible strategy.”
