The warm weather drove many people to the water on Friday, but in Mechelen such an afternoon of water fun turned out on a drama. A 9 -year -old child was in trouble in the water of the Nekker and was removed in a critical condition. That the victim is still alive is due to some alert bathers. Joëlle Proesmans (37) from Willebroek also participated in the improvised rescue campaign. “While everyone had to get out of the water, I went in to form a human chain.”
