Finnish striker Joel Pohjanpalo from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen is moving to Venice FC in Italy’s Serie B. Both clubs confirmed this on Friday.
Pohjanpalo has been given a contract until 2025 plus a two-year option. The transfer fee, about which both clubs did not provide any information, is said to be around 2.6 million euros.
“We are very grateful to Joel for his commitment over the past few years. He has always identified with Bayer 04,” said sporting director Simon Rolfes: “We wish Joel the success he deserves in Italy.”
Pohjanpalo had not made a breakthrough at Bayer and had been loaned out to Fortuna Düsseldorf, Hamburger SV, Union Berlin and Rizespor. Most recently, the Finn was also in conversation with Leverkusen’s Bundesliga competitor 1. FC Köln.
