JJ’S BBQ opened a pop-up restaurant in Helsinki

Jari-Jukka Kallunki knows how to smoke meat in authentic Yankee style.

The best burger restaurant in Finland (in the open public vote of the Burger Lovers Finland community), the winner of the public vote in the Finnish qualifier of the European Street Food Awards, the biggest smoker in Finland.

Here are a few examples of what can happen when smocking, i.e. slow smoking, has become a passion.

So the burger man Herlevi and the phenomenon of Finnish barbecue food Jari-Jukka Kallunki joined forces and brought the popular JJ’S BBQ to Helsinki at Naughty BRGR on Sturenkatu.

The pop-up experiment will be at Sturenkatu for at least the rest of the year.

The JJ’S BBQ restaurant is open both in Salo and in Helsinki from Thursday to Sunday. On the busiest weekends, Kallunki smokes up to 1200 kilos of beef brisket in the courtyard of his restaurant located in the Salo industrial area.

Although JJ’S BBQ is located in Naughty BRGR’s premises, it has its own kitchen, menu and ordering counter. The meat is smoked in Salo and heated in Helsinki.

The platter has sausage, brisket and bullet pork, as well as coleslaw, macaron & cheese and pickled cucumber and red onion as side dishes. Eeva Paljakka

Contrary to what you might imagine, this kind of reheating is suitable for meat that has been smoked for a long time.

– It tastes even better, Herlevi states.

Kallunki got the spark for his restaurant from the stylish smokers of American barbecue programs and the slow-cooked meats in them.

Since a suitable model could not be found in Finland, he designed and manufactured one himself. As the popularity has grown, so have the smokers, and now JJ’S BBQ has the largest wood-burning smoker in Finland, weighing more than 2000 kilograms.
