To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Japanese manga and anime series Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, British luxury label Jimmy Choo is releasing a capsule in her honour.
The Jimmy Choo x Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon capsule brings together the visions of creative director Sandra Choo and artist Naoko Takeuchi, the footwear brand announced last week. The comic series was characterized from the start as “shōjo manga” in German “girl comics” and stands – like Jimmy Choo – for femininity and female power.
Each model in the collection reflects one of the heroines of the comics. There are five shoes, each named after one of the heroines and inspired by their personality and color scheme. Designs include knee-high boots, ankle boots, patent pumps, lace-up boots and platform shoes, as well as bags featuring Naoko Takeuchi’s manga drawings.
“Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon” is a unique global phenomenon – a manga and anime that bridges cultures and languages, speaks to different generations and brings us all together,” said Sandra Choi, Creative Director Jimmy Choo.
To celebrate the day, not only Jimmy Choo’s shoes and bags, but also flagships around the world were wrapped in Sailor Moon’s drawings. DJ Honey Dijon also composed two manga-inspired songs, and London’s Selfridges department store is hosting a Jimmy Choo x Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon pop-up.
The temporary retail space is open from February 14th to March 12th. The collection is also available in the Jimmy Choo online shop.
