Jill Peeters in Europe’s oldest drinking water power plant: “We see an immediate impact of climate disruption on our potable water”

Our climate expert Jill Peeters was able to visit the oldest drinking water power plant in Europe in Innsbruck, Austria. This was built during the Second World War. In this plant drinking water is collected from the surrounding mountains, the sand is filtered out in large basins and the mineral water is then distributed throughout the city. Innsbruck is known for its high quality drinking water. There are more than 140 water fountains throughout the city, some of which date back to the sixteenth century. The power station that Jill Peeters was allowed to visit exceptionally also provides sustainable energy. The flowing water from the Alps powers a power station.
