After Holland Zingt Hazes, there is now a similar concept with the music of Rob de Nijs, initiated by his widow Jet de Nijs. The new Rachel Hazes is born, say critics. What does Jet think about that?
It’s one of the biggest insults you can get: looking like Rachel Hazes. Yet that is precisely what happens to Jet de Nijs now that, like her fellow widow, she has initiated a concert series around the songs of her deceased husband. What does she actually think about that? She was sitting at the desk last night Show news.
Flu
Jet continues to find it unreal that her Rob de Nijs is no longer there. “February was the month that Malle Babbe premiered last year. That same evening, Julius got the flu. He did not see the second half. Ultimately, the flu also passed to Rob and that was ultimately the beginning of the last journey of his life.”
She continues: “I’m also a bit nervous about this period. I just want to make him proud, I notice that in everything. That’s my goal in life too. I just want his legacy to continue and that we can continue to enjoy his pieces forever.”
Lots of criticism
Celebrity photographer William Rutten presents Jet with a sore point. “You also had quite a lot of criticism for that, didn’t you, online, from people who suddenly started comparing you to Rachel Hazes.”
He continues: “While I do happen to know – I have been involved in conversations with you and Rob – that Rob thought that was very important, that his legacy remained and that his music was sung by young people.”
What does Jet say?
What does Jet think about that? “Yes, but you know, I think people just find it very difficult for things to continue. Maybe that also takes time. I’ll just assume that.”
She continues: “I know I’m doing the right thing and the right thing is what Rob envisioned. Ultimately celebrating his music and his life. May his beautiful pieces continue.”
Finally: after No Way Back VIPS, is she ready for even more celebrity TV, such as Het Perfecte Plaatje? “Well, they can call me!”
