The intense family feud between Jan and Monique Smit takes on unprecedented proportions. It’s no secret that Jan pukes on his sister, but now he’s starting to screw her professionally too. Monique mainly earns her money with songs in the children’s genre and is very familiar to that target group with her various Sinterklaas songs.

Money in pocket

Monique recorded many of those songs when she was still with Jan’s record label, Vosound, and they have now decided to screw her and take all those songs offline from Spotify. Friend and enemy agree: this is a base trick from the AvroTros presenter.

Show expert Bart Ettekoven thinks that Jan is missing the point and finds it significant what their sister Jenny Smit has now come up with. “We had not heard of Jenny Smit yet. She also contributed today. At least: I think it is a statement,” he says at the desk of Show news.

‘Yes, that’s a statement’

Jenny, who works behind the scenes for TV programs including Jan’s TV hit Beste Zangers, seems to be in the Monique camp. “She posted a Sinterklaas song by Monique on her Instagram story. The hit Caroussel that she recently released, but with a very special Sinterklaas text.”

Colleague Patty Brard also sees a statement in this. “If your brother deletes all your Sinterklaas songs and your sister has a new version of your latest hit in a Sinterklaas style, which she posts today, then I think it is also a statement.”

‘Back on Spotify!’

Bart sees on Instagram that even Jan’s fans are turning against him. “With Jan you also see people reacting: ‘That’s all nice, but put your sister’s music back on Spotify.’ People do blame him. It affects quite a lot of people with children who like that music.”

What does Ronald Molendijk think about it? Patty spoke to him and quotes him: “What probably happened is that she went to a new record company, that she sat down with Jan to discuss the rights to these old songs because Vosound still makes a lot of money from them and then they wanted a new distribution.”

Patty: “I understand that, but they probably didn’t reach an agreement.”

Not okay

The fact that Jan now screws his own sister so mercilessly is according to Patty not done. “I just don’t think it’s okay, but okay.”

She concludes: “If I were Monique, I would rent a studio with speed and screeching tires, I would have all those songs remade by Billy Dans and then I would put them all on Spotify again.”
