Jenning de Boo from the city of Groningen wins silver in the 1000 meters during European Championship distances

Jenning de Boo from the city of Groningen immediately won silver in the 1000 meters during his first European Championship distances.

The only 19-year-old from team Reggeborgh did this behind his teammate Kjeld Nuis, who became European champion. With a time of 1.07.87, the 34-year-old skater was faster than De Boo and Tim Prins, who won silver and bronze with 1.08.14 and 1.08.20 respectively. Prins also skates for Reggeborgh of coach Gerard van Velde.

Two years ago, Nuis had to settle for silver at the European Championships in Thialf behind fellow countryman Thomas Krol, who also won the Olympic title in the kilometer a month later. Krol is missing from this European Championship. He failed to qualify for the National Championships a week earlier. De Boo, who switched from short track to long track for this season, previously became Dutch champion at both the 500 and 1000 meters during the National Championships.
