Jeff Bezos and Jay-Z Want to Take Over NFL Team | Abroad

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos prepares an offer for the Washington Commanders American football team. Rapper Jay-Z might step in as an investor. This was reported by the financial news agency Bloomberg based on anonymous sources.

Current owners of the Washington Commanders (until two years ago, the Washington Redskins), Dan and Tanya Snyder, announced on Wednesday that they are considering selling the NFL squad. The decision comes after persistent criticism of the billionaire couple, not only over disappointing sporting results, but also over complaints about a toxic corporate culture. Sports channel ESPN also reported on Wednesday that the Public Prosecution Service has launched an investigation into possible financial misconduct at the team.

According to Bloomberg, Jeff Bezos (58), the founder of internet giant Amazon and aerospace company Blue Origin, is reporting as a candidate buyer. With a fortune of $115 billion to his name – he is the fourth richest person in the world – he already seems to have good cards. Rapper Jay-Z, who in the past had a minority stake in the Brooklyn Nets basketball team and founder of the sports management agency Roc Nation Sports, may also be involved in the bid.

Sportico, a website specializing in business news from the sports industry, estimates the value of the Washington Commanders at $4.8 billion.

Earlier, Bloomberg also reported, based on anonymous sources, that media figure Byron Allen would prepare a bid for the Commanders. It would be his second attempt this year at signing an NFL team: early this year he missed the Denver Broncos.
The Broncos changed hands in the summer for $4.65 billion. They came into the hands of an investor group that included Walmart scion Robert Walton, F1 pilot Lewis Hamilton and former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
