Jeff Beck never wanted to be a guitar hero. He left the Yardbirds. Dissolved the Jeff Beck Group (and declined a Woodstock appearance). And he let other bands go in the sand before they were even famous. But as much as Beck refused to fame, he still wanted to play the guitar. His technology developed quickly. From the total mastery of the blues at the Yardbirds and the Jeff Beck Group to the use of a WAH-Wah to make its crumbling Stratocaster sing on the instrumental piece “Beck’s Bolero”.

As a constant sound tinkerer, Beck was inspired by jazz fusion in the mid-1970s. And concentrated on the guitar on “Blow by Blow”. On this instrumental album, he shrugged with the Whammy bar. Thrown Grace notes. And bent the pitch to reflect the voice of the R&B singer Syreeta on his cover of “‘Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers”.

He got better and better in interpreting the human voice on the guitar in an unusual way. The stinging pride of his solo in “People get Ready”, the floating, shimmering sound of the almost crying “Nadia”, his sighing and powerful interpretations of “Over the Rainbow” and “Nessun Dorma”. “I never made the big throw, graciously likely likely,” said Beck 2018. “If you look around and see who did it big, that’s a really bad place if you think about it. Maybe I am blessed with it that I have not experienced it.”

Memory of Jeff Beck: howling finger finger

Even if Jeff Beck never celebrated commercial success á la Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page, he is still considered to be a force in rock music due to his pioneering work in a jazz rock, fusion and the progressive guitar music.

For his instrumental, he was awarded the Grammy Award several times. Beck played mainly without a pick, which became one of his various distinguishing features.

Geoffrey Arnold “Jeff” Beck was born in Wallington in English in 1944 and initially learned on a borrowed guitar. He tried to build his own guitar in a variety of ways. As a teenager, he met through his sister Jimmy Page, with whom he later played for the Yardbirds for a short time.

Beck earned his money as a session musician during the early 1960s, but he was already able to Eric Clapton Replace at The Yardbirds as a lead guitarist. He experimented as one of the first guitarists with various additional effects and thus helped the Yardbirds to their most commercially successful time.

With the new sounds, the band succeeded several times into the hit parades, including “Heart Full of Soul”, “Still I’m Sad/Evil Hearted You”, “Shapes of Things” and “Over, Under, Sideways, Down”. When Jimmy Page (later at Led Zeppelin), he provided a short lead guitar duo intermezzo together with Beck at the end of 1966 before Beck left the group.

Jeff Beck was always a team player

Beck founded his own band project, Jeff Beck Group, the following year. Singer was a certain Rod Stewart, who later became very successful as a solo artist. The Jeff Beck Group published two albums, “Truth” (1968) and “Beck-Ola” (1969). After Stewart and Wood got out of 1969, Beck started a second try with the Jeff Beck Group. However, when he failed, he founded the top -class Trio Beck, Bogert & Appice in 1972, which mainly received great attention from connoisseurs.

In the following, Beck not only released a jazz-oriented solo album, but also noticed collaborations with other artists, such as the bands Wired and Upp in 1976.

In 2001 Beck was able to accept his third Grammy Award for the song “Dirty Mind” from the album “You Had It Coming”. He also often played as a guest musician, including for Bon Jovi and Roger Waters. The songs “Plan B” (2003) and “Nessun Dorma” (2010) were each awarded a Grammy Award. In the last few months of his life, he recaptured a new audience with his collaboration with Johnny Depp.
