Pole position therefore went to Carlos Sainz, who was seven hundredths faster than Verstappen. “It’s a bit of a lottery under these conditions, you have to be on track at the right time,” said Verstappen immediately after the wet qualifying at Silverstone. He was booed by the English fans during his interview. ,,I was a bit unlucky with that yellow flag at the end, but the front row is still a good starting position. I think we have a good car in all circumstances.”
It seems to remain dry during the race on Sunday. Sainz was able to thank his teammate Charles Leclerc, who spun on his last lap and caused that yellow flag. For Sainz it is his first pole position.
“It was difficult to get the temperature in the tires. I didn’t think my lap was anything special, so pole position came as a surprise,” said Sainz. ,,I think we’re in good shape towards the race, but Max and Charles are definitely going to put the pressure on it.”
