Jean-Pierre Jabouille is dead, first win with a turbo

Jabouille drove the first victory in formula history with a turbo engine.

French former F1 driver Jean-Pierre Jabouille is dead. The death was reported by Motorsport France on Twitter, among others.

Jabouille, who died at the age of 80, drove a total of 49 races in Formula One from 1975 to 1981. He achieved six pole positions, 21 MM points and two victories.

Jabouille is remembered above all as a driver for the Renault team. He drove the first victory in F1 history with an engine equipped with a turbo in 1979. Jabouille helped the French brand develop the engine technology from the turbo, which was first a laughing stock, without which it was not possible to succeed in the formulas in the 1980s.

Jabouille was not only a driver. As an engineer, he was able to give Renault valuable information in the development of the turbo engine.
