Jong Ajax started the year with a draw against FC Eindhoven. The young Ajax players fell behind immediately after the break due to Evan Rottier. They were not deterred and came through Jaydon Banel to 1-1.
Mohamed Lamine Diaby caused the first danger. He just couldn’t finish a cross and Charlie Setford saved the ball. A shot from FC Eindhoven hit the post and Diaby then had another huge chance. Setford stopped with a lot of art and flying. Charles-Andreas Brym shot high over just before the break. Donny Warmerdam could have headed the 1-0 in injury time, but the ball went just over.
Immediately after the break, FC Eindhoven scored the opening goal. Evan Rottier scored the goal: 0-1. Lorenzo Lucca then had the biggest chance of the second half. His shot went just wide of the mark. The people of Eindhoven seemed to be winning. Out of nowhere, Jaydon Banel equalized. That turned out to be the equalizer in the end.
Young Ajax remains twelfth in the first division due to the draw. De Graafschap is the next opponent next Friday. Kick-off is at 8 p.m.
