Jaromír Jágr, 51, receives a wonderful tribute

NHL club Pittsburgh Penguins will raise Jaromír Jágr’s game number 68 to the ceiling of PPG Paints Arena, the club announces on its website.

The Penguins will hang the game number on the roof of their home arena on February 18.

Jágr was drafted by the Penguins as the fifth player in the 1990 draft. Jágr started his NHL career with the Penguins in the 1990–1991 season and played in the club for a total of 11 seasons. He captained the team for three seasons.

– It was fun in Pittsburgh. I was 18 when I went there and everyone knew I didn’t speak English. I was the first ever European player in the club. They treated me like I was their child, Jágr commented in a video published by the Penguins on the messaging service X.

Jágr won the Stanley Cup twice with the club in the spring of 1991 and 1992. Jágr played 806 regular season games with the club with 439+640=1079 power points. Jágr scored a total of 78 winning goals.

The Czech played in the NHL for no less than 24 seasons. He won several individual awards in the NHL, such as the Art Ross Trophy, awarded to the winner of the points exchange, and the Hart Trophy, awarded to the player deemed most valuable to his team.

He is currently the owner of Rytíři Kladno. 51-year-old Jágr still played in the shirt of the club he owns in the Czech premier league last season.
