The Italian Jannik Sinner has conquered the title on Wimbledon for the first time. The number 1 of the tennis world was too strong for two-time winner Carlos Alcaraz from Spain after just over three hours with 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
It is the fourth Grandslam title for the 23-year-old Sinner, who played the final at Wimbledon for the first time. He won this and last year the Australian Open and last year also the US Open. Alcaraz (22) won five titles on the largest tournaments so far. The global number 2 wrote the US Open (2022) and twice Roland Garros (2024, 2025) to his name and defeated Novak Djokovic in the previous two finals at Wimbledon.
The final on the grass of the All England Club was a repeat of the final battle on Roland Garros from last month, where Sinner did not cope with a lead of two sets and three match points. In London the Italian took a 4-2 lead in the first set, but then his service started to falter. Alcaraz benefited and won the set by winning four games in a row.
Reversal
Sinner, who had delivered Alcaraz to Wimbledon in 2022, came back strongly in the second set. His storage ran better and he produced a number of beautiful points at important moments. The casual -looking Alcaraz began to make more mistakes and was no longer able to repair an early disadvantage.
The defending champion also started the third set, in which he immediately had to eliminate two breakpoints in the first game. Alcaraz recovered somewhat in the following games, but still returned his storage at 4-4 after a number of sloppy points. The Italian then easily took the set.
Sinner also achieved a higher level in the fourth set than his opponent. He won his first two service games on Love and Brak Alcaraz on 1-1. The number 1 of the placement list seemed to feel the nerves in the eighth game, in which he found out 15-40, but he still held his service. In his next storage, the Italian brought in the title on his second match point.
