What a pity: Jandino Asporaat and his vocal cords threaten to emigrate to Curaçao. The comedian thinks the quality of life on the island is much better compared to the Netherlands.

Jandino Asporaat was born on Curaçao 41 years ago. When he was eleven he moved to the Netherlands and he thought it was terrible. “In Curaçao the focus was on what you had, in the Netherlands on what you didn’t have. It was like having a bucket of cold water thrown in my face,” he says in the chat magazine &C† “Apart from the temperature.”

‘Curacao is better’

All horrible. “The Netherlands was not paradise as it was described in Curaçao, but very hard. Within that hardness I looked for the beautiful moments.”

It really is much better on Curaçao, says Jandino. “The quality of life is really higher in Curaçao. In the Netherlands you meet in an office. On Curaçao you say: I’ll see you on the beach. (…) Everyone helps each other, people are friendly.”

‘My heart is there’

Jandino has amassed his millions in the Netherlands, but despite everything he feels ‘a real Curaçaoan’. “My heart lies with the projects I do in Curaçao.”

Is he talking about the study projects that Juice Channel recently reported on? “I am setting up an agricultural school for the youth in Curaçao and will soon open a national park on the island.”

Get out of the Netherlands

That sounds like a lot of work. Isn’t that commute to Curaçao a bit polluting? “At least once a month I fly back and forth to Curaçao to arrange everything there.”

Jandino thinks it might be time to emigrate to Curaçao. “My dream is to turn the current situation around, so that Curaçao becomes my full base and the Netherlands comes in second place.”

While his wife takes care of the children at home, Jandino flies to Curaçao again and again for his ‘projects’:
