Jan van Halst will succeed Danny Blind at Ajax Supervisory Board

Jan van Halst is nominated as the newest member of the Supervisory Board. The former footballer, who nowadays analyzes matches on TV, succeeds Danny Blind, who left in the summer of 2021.

Ajax had been looking for a so-called ‘football man’ within the council for some time. That position has been empty since Danny Blind left in the summer of 2021 to become assistant national coach of the Dutch national team. To the surprise of Ajax, Blind did not return after the 2022 World Cup, so the club had to look for a successor.

That will be Van Halst, who played 44 matches for Ajax between 1999 and 2000. After his career as a football player, Van Halst held several board positions at FC Twente.

Ocampos

The fact that the Supervisory Board sometimes takes crucial decisions suddenly became visible last summer when the council stopped a transfer from Lucas Ocampos to Ajax on the latter. Ocampos, who should cost 20 million, was then rented for half a year, but again after six games sent back to Spain.

In addition, the Supervisory Board can appoint and dismiss Ajax directors. Things have been rumbling in the management of Ajax for months. The club lost technical director Marc Overmars in February last year and has still not found a permanent successor for him.
