Yerseke cancels Sinterklaas arrival for KOZP: ‘I will have the whole of the Netherlands falling over me’
Sinterklaas’ arrival in Yerseke will not take place this year. The Sinterklaas committee canceled the event because action group Kick Out Zwarte Piet (KOZP) wanted to demonstrate on Saturday against the use of Zwarte Piet. According to the organization, the entry cannot take place in a safe manner, as a large counter-demonstration was also announced. There is great fear of disturbances, partly because protests around the same subject already went wrong in November 2024. The committee calls the decision ‘very sad’, but states that the safety of visitors, especially children, must always be the highest priority.
