Jan Smit honored with Edison Pop Oeuvre Prize

Jan Smit has been awarded the Edison Pop Oeuvre Prize 2024. The singer received the award from his 10-year-old son Senn on Thursday evening in the talk show Humberto.

“A roller coaster.” In the broadcast, Smit looks back on his thirty-year career, with ‘ups and downs’, “that is inherent to such a long career”. Smit did not expect Senn to bring the prize. “Now that’s a surprise.”

Jury chairman, radio DJ Daniël Dekker, praised Smit’s oeuvre and his contribution to Dutch music at the table. “The jury notes that his oeuvre has now received almost 80 gold and platinum awards, supported by more than 20 number 1 hits. A unique artist who has been making music with great success for thirty years before the age of 40: the jury therefore awards the Edison Pop Oeuvre Prize 2024 to Jan Smit,” the jury report states.

The jury also consists of Eric van Holland (Senior Editor Spotify Benelux), Vera Siemons (3FM DJ), Martijn Biemans (Music Director Qmusic), Anna Veenstra (Sr. Programmer Melkweg), Nils Brokerhof (Music Director 100%NL/SLAM! ) and Randall Spann (Music Director FunX). The lifetime achievement prize went to Kensington last year.

The Edisons Pop will be awarded on Monday in the AFAS Theater in Leusden.
