Jan Biggel wins platinum record: ‘Golden record is a lousy thing’

Jan Biggel has received a platinum record for his hit single Ons Moeder Zeej Nog, because the song has been streamed more than 17 million times. The singer was surprised during a performance on Thursday evening. “I expected it, but I liked it,” he responds. “I actually thought that gold record was ‘a lame thing’.”

The singer is still a bit under the weather on Friday evening, because he has just finished the video recording for his new song: Lege Pullen. “That’s just laughing, screeching, roaring. Every time I had to fill them and drink them empty again. How many beers have I had? Girl, I can’t count them anymore.”

That is promising. He actually did a test run the day before. During his performance at Hart Voor Muziek he already played his new hit twice. “Once for the lyrics, then for the party. Then they tore down the tent.”

When Biggel finished singing and wanted to walk off stage, he saw someone coming towards him with a platinum record. Of course for the hit most people know him from: Our Mother Zeej Nog. And the singer, down to earth as he is, was a bit impressed by that. “It was a bit unexpected. Although I expected it, white no.”

“I actually thought that gold record was a silly thing.”

“But I did like it. Do you know what it is? I was a bit astonished. I already liked what I had a lot,” he says. By this he refers to the gold record, which he received in 2022 for 8.6 million streams. “But I actually only liked that gold record lilluk thing. Then platinum is much nicer.”

Lilluk or not, his goal is to win two more gold records. “That is my goal, because you can never be satisfied. You have to have a goal before you stop. Others make a song and then they are gone, but I won’t let that happen to me.”

By the way, Empty Pullen will be released on January 10. And who knows, that might be one step closer to Biggel’s next goal.
