James Crawford made Canadian winter sports history on Saturday. The ski racer celebrated wildly.

In Kitzbühel, the Streif doesn’t just end spectacularly on the slopes – the nights afterwards can also be tough, including this weekend. The top three from the previous day’s descent, James Crawford, Alexis Monney and Cameron Alexander, showed on Saturday evening that they are among the world’s best not only in sport but also in partying. Videos on Instagram document how exuberantly the athletes celebrated after their triumph.

After the award ceremony and the exclusive “Kitz Race Party” in the VIP tent, where the trio in suits were in the spotlight alongside a performance by James Blunt, we continued to the legendary celebration location “Londoner”. It wasn’t just celebrity guests like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Franziska von Almsick who were allowed to applaud – the fans also celebrated wildly. The pub’s motto, “If the Streif won’t kill you, the Londoner will” (in German: If the Streif doesn’t kill you, then the Londoner will), became the program once again that evening.

Late at night, the three downhill winners in the “Londoner” gave a particularly relaxed picture: Topless and with drinks in their hands, they celebrated a wild party behind the bar. It was an unforgettable moment especially for the two Canadians Crawford and Alexander, as they had won the Streif in Canada for the first time 42 years after the “Crazy Canucks”.

Before the celebration, they had already been asked about the legendary party night in Canada. “I’ve heard of a place called ‘Londoner’ – is it still going strong?” was a question to the winners. Both smiled meaningfully, knowing that they would continue this tradition themselves. Kitzbühel once again presents itself as a stage for top sporting performances – and nighttime escapades.
