Jamal Musiala lacks FC Bayern and the national team. But the injured DFB star gives hope for a comeback this year.
His injury was a shock for FC Bayern, but now Jamal Musiala gives positive signals. The DFB star said the “Sport Bild”: “I take the time, don’t want to call a date. But with the progress that I have made so far, I would say: I would like to play competitive games with Bayern in 2025.”
Musiala had suffered ankle luxation and a fracture of the calves in the quarterfinals of the club World Cup against Paris Saint-Germain. The injury appeared after a collision with goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Musiala now added: “My foot is doing well, the healing process is going according to plan. I no longer need crutches.” However, he wanted to “fall nothing” and emphasized: “When I go back to the pitch, I would like to be ready.”
National coach Julian Nagelsmann also understanded this, Musiala reported. The national coach had already visited him at home. From the point of view of Bayern professionals, it is better “if I come back in top form at the end of the season-and at the World Cup”.
It is painful that he cannot intervene and only had to follow the Bundesliga opening from the stands. “It hurts,” said Musiala. At the same time, the view of his comeback motivates him: “I already know: If I can play again, I do what I love. That gives me motivation and joy for my rehab work.”
The memories of the moment of injury are difficult for Musiala. “I haven’t even seen the scene in the video until today, just photos of it,” he said. He does not accuse Donnarumma. He could imagine “how bad Donnarumma felt at that moment”. The PSG keeper did not intentionally injure him. “I’m not angry,” said Musiala and added: “Everything is fine, something like that happens.”
