The German ski racer Jacob Schramm experienced a horror fall on the famous stripe. Now he talks about his experience.
For ski racers, the famous stripe is equally attractive and deterrent. The slope in Kitzbühel has already produced one or the other hero. However, numerous athletes also experienced bad falls here. One of them is the German Jacob Schramm. The 26-year-old experienced a horror fall in training this year and now has to learn to run again after cruciate ligament tears in both knees.
The DSV professional holds its small progress on Instagram. Now he also spoke about the challenges and the moment when it happened. The fall on January 25th burned down deeply into his memory – three noises in particular have remembered.
“The right cruciate ligament, the knee cracked, then the airbag opened because it threw me, that was such a puff,” said Schramm now “RTL”. The FIS introduced the wearing of the airbag in the speed disciplines. Not all athletes wear it because he is uncomfortable. But Schramm had him on and was likely to have been happy. He perceived the moment intensively when his left knee in the fence was changed: “A very nasty feeling, noise, as if you crushed something.”
Jacob Schramm also knows exactly how he looked at his knee after the fall and realized that it stands in the 45 grand angle. “I was shocked and maybe that’s why I didn’t feel that much pain at the first time, even if it was gradually coming,” said the ski racer.
He started his rehab in a holiday apartment in Berchtesgaden. There he is already working with light strength training on his recovery. He gets support from his girlfriend Lena, who has moved to him and accompanies him both in everyday life and emotionally.
Schramm: “From time to time she had to hug me when the emotion came out.” Due to his fall, Schramm misses the current Ski World Cup in Saalbach. It hurts him to see his colleagues. The athlete cannot participate in the Winter Olympics in the coming year either. However, he tries to “make the best of it”.
