Jack White has once again expressed his incomprehension of those who literally idolize Donald Trump – with an Instagram post about a new 7-meter-tall golden statue of the president.
The statue was recently dedicated at the Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami, led by evangelical pastor Mark Burns. Like so much in Trump’s world, the event was comically rich in irony and hypocrisy – after all, the Bible has a lot to say about the worship of false idols, not to mention the story of the golden calf.
Of course, White, who grew up Catholic and knows Judeo-Christian theology well, noticed all of this. While his tirades against the president are usually long-winded essays, this comment was unusually brief. The musician wrote on Instagram: “The most frustrating thing about modern American life is trying to understand people who don’t even CARE that they don’t make sense.”

White’s criticism of the golden Trump statue comes just weeks after he called out the president for comparing himself to Jesus in an infamous AI-generated image. “How can any so-called Christian support him after this blasphemy?” asked White. “How can any Catholic stand behind him after he has repeatedly attacked the character of their Pope? How could so many millions of people fall for this fraud?”
Beyond his general displeasure with the president, White is musically active: He most recently performed at Coachella and was a guest on “Saturday Night Live.” He will spend most of the summer and fall on tour – a short North American tour is planned for July, and a longer tour starts September 18th in Cincinnati, Ohio.
