Only two players in the squad are more valuable

Ivan Ordets has been without a club since his contract with VfL Bochum ended last summer, but was on the pitch for a German second division team on Tuesday. Arminia Bielefeld is testing the 33-year-old central defender in team training during the international break.

With Maximilian Großer (24), Leon Schneider (25), Joel Felix (27) and loanee Jonathan Norbye (18), the promoted team only has four nominal central defenders in the squad, which seemed sufficient given the four-man defense mostly deployed by coach Mitch Kniat at the start of the season. Recently, however, a three-man chain was used three times and won convincingly against both SV Elversberg (2:0) and Karlsruher SC (4:0). There was only one defeat in the DFB Cup at Union Berlin (1:2 nV). In addition, Großer has already been called up in defensive midfield twice this season.
With Ordets as another option, flexibility would increase, although the 12-time Ukrainian national player would certainly have to make compromises in terms of salary for last year’s third division club. Just a few years ago he played in the Champions League with Shakhtar Donetsk and made 76 Bundesliga appearances in three years in Bochum. With a market value of €1 million, he would be the most valuable player in the Arminia squad behind Marvin Mehlem (€2 million) and Marius Wörl (€1.7 million).
